On 8 November 2023, he was arrested in a case of hate speech for his viral offensive comments, linking Hindu priests and Namgarhias (priests of the Vaishnavite sect) with criminal activities in Goalpara district at a public meeting on 4 November 2023. His comments came in response to All India United Democratic Front chief Badruddin Ajmal who had called Muslims as “number one in robbery, dacoity, rape.” He was soon served with a show cause notice by the Assam state Congress president Bhupen Bara.
