• After former president Joseph Estrada was impeached in 2001, Atong flew to the U.S. where he was caught and arrested by U.S. authorities while gambling in Las Vegas. He was placed under house arrest and then extradited to the Philippines in 2006.

• Atong is also known for promoting the cockfighting industry in the Philippines. He co-founded the Ultimate Fighting Cock Championship(UFCC) and helps finance cockfighting teams by sending them to competitions.
