• She was named Gypsy-Rose as her mother liked the name, Gypsy, and her father liked the rock band, Guns N’ Roses.

• Her parents were separated before she was born and she was raised single-handedly by her mother.

• Her father kept in touch with her till she was 10 years old.

• Her mother suffered from Munchhausen-by-proxy, a type of mental disorder in which a caregiver makes the other person believe that they have health issues.

• Her mother claimed that she had suffered from various health issues since she was a child.

• In the beginning, her mother told her that she needed a walker because she suffers from muscular dystrophy, a group of diseases that cause weakness and muscle loss over time.

• She would often take Gypsy-Rose to hospitals and get her treated for various diseases by lying to the doctors and showing fake diagnosis reports.

• Often, when the doctors informed her of the wrong diagnosis of Gypsy-Rose, she would lash out and take her to another hospital.

• She even had a few of the Gypsy-Rose’s saliva glands to be treated with Botox and later, got the salivary glands to be removed.

• The removal of salivary glands resulted in the decay of Gypsy-Rose’s teeth which were then replaced by artificial teeth.

• Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s big glasses, few teeth, and high-pitched voice made the people believe in her mother that she suffers from various health issues.

• She wore wigs as her mother would often shave her head.

• Her mother always held her hand in public and would squeeze it if Gypsy-Rose said anything that made her seem healthy. Later, when they were alone, her mother would beat her.

• In 2011, she found her true age to be 19 and not 15 through her Medicaid card.

• Soon she decided to run away with Dan, a man whom she had met at a sci-fi convention.

• She left a note for her mother stating that she knows about her real age and wants to live as an independent woman before running away from her home to Dan’s friend’s house. After reaching, she discovered that Dan was out on parole and feared that her mother would find her.

• After reaching home, her mother smashed her computer with a hammer and threatened to break her fingers. According to Gypsy-Rose, she was chained and handcuffed for two weeks after the incident and was kept hungry by her mother.

• According to Gypsy-Rose, her mother put a hex on her so she could never find love.

• Gypsy-Rose felt that the police wouldn’t help as her mother had told her that she had filed paperwork with the police that she was mentally incompetent.

• She was fed the liquid nutrition supplement, PediaSure until she was in her 20s.

• She tried to kill her mother by shooting her 10 times with a BB gun, an air gun which she thought to be a real gun, in 2011.

• In 2012, she met Nicholas Godejohn through a Christian singles website.

• In 2014, Gypsy-Rose told her neighbour, Aleah Woodmansee, about Nicholas Godejohn and her plan to run away with him.

• Aleah Woodmansee, who thought she was older than Gypsy-Rose but in reality was of the same age, thought Nicholas Godejohn was a sexual predator and tried to talk her out of it.

• On 10 June 2015, Nicholas Godejohn arrived at Gypsy-Rose’s house when her mother was asleep. She gave him duct tape, a knife and gloves to murder her mother while she hid herself in the bathroom and covered her ears.

• Nicholas Godejohn stabbed her mother 17 times when she was asleep.

• According to Gypsy-Rose, Nicholas raped her in her room after murdering her mother.

• The couple stole $4,400 and eventually moved to Nicholas Godejohn’s home in Wisconsin.

• In 2016, Gypsy-Rose pleaded to second-degree murder and was sentenced to prison for 10 years.

• In an interview in 2018, she claimed that she felt more free in prison than she felt when she lived with her mother.

• She gained 6.4kg weight while in county prison, regardless of poor nutrition in prison as she was underfed throughout her life.

• She was released from prison in December 2023 and planned to remarry Ryan Scott Anderson in a marriage ceremony, attended by their family members and friends.

• After getting released from prison, she started to give interviews on various talk shows including ‘The View.’

• In a TV mini-series released in January 2024, titled ‘The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,’ she revealed that she got addicted to painkillers when she was 16.
