Some Lesser Known Facts About Dr. Jitendra Singh

• Dr Jitendra Singh belongs to a Hindu Dogra Rajput family in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir.

• After pursuing his formal education, he became a Fellow at the Indian College of Physicians (ICP),
  Life Patron at the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.

• He also worked as a newspaper columnist for various newspapers including the Kashmir Times and the Daily Excelsior.

• He also wrote a weekly column known as the Tales of Travesty, which was featured in the newspaper’s editorial section until 2014.

• Singh also served as a professor of diabetes and endocrinology at the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI).

• He was the chairman of the National Scientific Committee of Diabetes and the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.

• In 2008, during the Amarnath land transfer controversy, he was appointed as the spokesperson of the Shri Amarnathji Sangharsh Samiti, an umbrella organisation of right-wing parties.

• In 2012, he took an early retirement to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

• On 14 July 2014, he launched India’s first research vessel named “Sindhu Sadhana” from the Mormugao harbour in Goa and in October of the same year, Singh launched India’s first homemade broad spectrum confocal microscope in New Delhi.

• In 2015, while he served as the Minister of state in space and atomic energy, The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the fourth Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System and he, along with ISRO chairman K. Sivan, gave a confirmation of a crewed mission to the moon in 2022 as announced by Narendra Modi.
