On 2 October 2024, Surekha gave a controversial statement which sparked a controversy when she blamed KT Rama Rao for the divorce of actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Akkineni Naga Chaitanya. She accused Rama Rao of blackmailing and tapping the phones of the actors. Rama Rao termed her statement as absurd and sent her a legal notice in which he threatened to file a defamation suit against her if she does not apologize withing 24 hours. Both the actors also condemned her statement and asked her to stay out of their mutual issue. Later, Surekha issued an apology to the actress on Twitter and clarified her stand on the issue.
