• Max began his professional football career in 1992 with his hometown club TSV Reinbek.

• Max was part of the Germany U-19 team that competed at the UEFA U-19 Championship in 2007.

• While playing for FC St. Pauli, Max scored 13 goals and recorded six assists in the 2. Bundesliga during the 2011-12 season. He helped the club finish in fourth position in the league missing out on the promotion playoffs on goal difference.

• Max scored his first international goal for Germany against the United States in Washington, D.C. on 2 June 2013.

• Besides football, Max also likes to play poker and in June 2014 he came third out of 241 players at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

• On 10 May 2015, Max joined VfL Wolfsburg on a four-year deal after the club activated his release clause of €12 million. He made his debut for the club against Bayern Munich in the 2015 DFL Supercup on 1 August 2015 after coming as a substitute in the 70th minute.

• In 2016, the VfL Wolfsburg club management advised Max to avoid eating Nutella for breakfast after the club noticed it. The club expected its players to stay in good shape and follow a strict diet routine.

• Due to disciplinary issues, Max was dropped from the German National football team which took part in the 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2016 UEFA Euro tournament.

• Max scored four goals in a match for the first time in his career on 22 April 2017 against FC Ingolstadt 04 and helped his club Werder Bremen to maintain the unbeaten run of 10 matches.

• In 2017, Max met with an accident while he was driving with his family in Hamburg. There was ice on the road due to which the car slipped and rammed into the railings. Fortunately, there were no injuries but the car was damaged badly.

• Max was appointed captain of Werder Bremen by manager Florian Kohfeldt ahead of the 2018–19 season.

• Max is very passionate about motorsports and owns a racing team Max Kruse Racing which he started in January 2018.

• In the 2018-19 season, Max received an offer from Liverpool FC’s coach Jürgen Klopp who wanted him to join them as a backup striker. The deal collapsed as Liverpool later won the UEFA Champions League that season and kept Divock Origi as the backup. Max joined the Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK next season.

• On New Year’s Eve 2019, Max performed in the Turkish version of the musical talent show ‘The Voice.’

• In June 2020, Max left Fenerbahçe after he terminated his contract with the club due to unpaid salary.

• Max met his wife Dilara after his move to 1. FC Union Berlin. During the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, He proposed to Dilara live on television after the match finished. Although Dilara was not present in the match, she replied to it on Instagram with “Yes!”

• Max and the club VfL Wolfsburg mutually decided to terminate the remaining contract in November 2022. He then joined the German second-division club SC Paderborn 07. There also his contract was terminated by the club in a mutual decision after which he took retirement from professional football.

• In 2024, Max accused the Berlin police authority of racism after a police check at his wife Dilara’s home.

• Max appeared in the 12th season of the German reality show ‘Promi Big Brother’ in October 2024 aired on Sat.1 TV channel. He participated in a reality show for the first time although his wife was a contestant in the show last year as well.
