Controversy |
The Little Mermaid Backlash: In May 2023, Mena Massoud faced backlash for comments he made on Twitter about Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid.’ He compared the film to his 2019 film ‘Aladdin,’ saying Aladdin earned over a billion dollars because people watched it many times, but predicted The Little Mermaid would not reach that level, even if it got a sequel. Since the film featured Halle Bailey as the first Black actress to play Ariel, many felt his remarks were negative and insensitive. The criticism grew quickly, and soon after, Mena deleted his Twitter account. |
