In August 2025, Rahul Mamkootathil faced a significant controversy when he resigned as president of the Kerala Youth Congress. This came after Malayalam actor Rini Ann George publicly alleged that a “young politician” had sent her obscene messages and invited her to a hotel, with media reports linking these claims to him. Mamkootathil denied any wrongdoing and continued to serve as the MLA for Palakkad.
After this, several other women came forward, accusing him of misleading them into relationships by promising marriage. On December 4, 2025, the All India Congress Committee expelled him from the party; however, he continued to serve as the MLA for Palakkad, as party expulsion does not disqualify a sitting legislator.
