Some Lesser Known Facts About Renuka Swamy
- Renuka Swamy worked at Apollo Pharmacy in Chitradurga. He was the only son of his parents.
- On 9 June 2024, a delivery boy was passing through the Kamkshipalya area of Bengaluru (or Bangalore) when he observed a dead body being bitten by stray dogs. He informed the police who later found out that the dead person was Renuka Swamy.
- On 10 June 2024, three people went to Kamakshipalya Police Station and claimed that they murdered Swamy due to a financial issue.
- While the station SHO was convinced and decided to close the case, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division), S Girish, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vijayanagar), Chandan Kumar, were not convinced and checked the call details.
- They later found that Darshan had talked to them multiple times on 9 and 10 June 2024. Girish later interrogated them during which all three accused gave different statements.
- On 11 June 2024, they arrested Darshan from Mysuru and more than 10 people including Darshan’s rumoured girlfriend Pavithra Gowda from different areas of Chitradurga and Bengaluru.
- It was later revealed that Darshan was angry with Swamy for his abusive messages to Gowda. Swamy often made bad comments on Gowda’s Instagram account for causing problems between Darshan and his wife, Vijay Lakshmi.

- Swamy, a die-hard fan of Darshan, was happy upon hearing this and agreed to go to Bengaluru with Raghavendra. Another source claimed that Swamy was kidnapped from Chitradurga to Bengaluru.
- On 8 June 2024, he went to Bengaluru with Raghavendra where he met four people who took him to Pattanagere shed in Bengaluru.
- Allegedly, Darshan and the other accused beat Swamy with sticks, and Darshan also kicked Swamy in his private part. They also slammed his head with an auto parked in the shed.
- Darshan denied any involvement in the murder and claimed during the police investigation that he met Swamy and slapped him twice for sending such messages to Gowda after which Swamy apologised to him. He said that he gave money to Swamy to eat lunch and left the place.
- He said that the other accused were trying to frame him in the case to extort money from him.
- On 14 June 2024, Chandrappa, father of Anu Kumar, one of the accused who surrendered at the police station, died due to a heart attack.
- People started demanding justice in the Renuka Swamy Murder Case after the news of Swamy’s murder made the headlines.
- On 15 June 2024, NM Suresh, president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce met Swamy’s family and handed over Rs 5 lakhs to them. Many celebrities including Ramya and Sudeep demanded justice for Swamy’s family and said that no one was above the law.
- Swamy’s mother, Ratnaprabha, and his wife, Sahana, demanded justice for Swamy and demanded strict punishment for Darshan and other accused. Sahana also claimed that she was three months pregnant with Swamy’s child.

- Interrogation of other accused revealed that they also contacted a police official from the Bengaluru police department who told them to dump the body in the Vrushabhavathi canal near Sumanahalli in front of an apartment complex in Bengaluru.
- The autopsy (or postmortem) report of Swamy revealed that he was beaten with iron rods and wooden sticks. He was also given electric shocks by an electrical test device known as ‘megger.’ His body had 15 injury marks.
- The doctor who conducted the postmortem claimed that he received an offer of a bribe of Rs 1 crore to mention the reason for death as ‘natural.’
- On 16 June 2024, Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and other accused were remanded to police custody till 20 June 2024. According to the people present in the court, Gowda started crying in the court while Darshan remained calm.
