FIR for alleged sedition
In March 2018, chairman of the UP Shia Waqf Board filed an FIR against him for sedition. He claimed that Sajjad Nomani has displayed feelings of hatred against the country, communities, and religion. Sajjad Nomani denied the allegations and stated that he has always talked about national unity and love towards the country.

Praised Taliban after it took over Afghanistan
In August 2021, he praised Taliban in one of his speeches. He congratulated them for taking over Afghanistan and said,
“This Hindi [Indian] Muslim salutes you.”

Promoted ‘Bhagwa Love Trap’ conspiracy theory
In one of his sermons on 31 December 2021, he made several claims inspired by a fake letter attributed to RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) giving rise to the ‘Bhagwa Love Trap’ conspiracy theory, a counter-conspiracy theory to the ‘Love Jihad’ conspiracy. He claimed that Hindu men are being incentivised and trained by the RSS to marry Muslim women and convert them to Hinduism. He also claimed that over 8 lakh Muslim women have left Islam after marrying Hindu men.

Claimed that girls shouldn’t go to school alone
In April 2023, he gave a speech in which he appealed to the people of Muslim community to not send their female children alone to schools and colleges and said,
“Do not send girls to school/college alone. It is haram (forbidden).”
He further asked parents to stay in touch with the school principal and ask whether their daughters had attended their classes or not.

Prayed for the forgiveness of gangster Atiq Ahmed
In April 2023, a video went viral in which he was seen praying for the forgiveness for the gangster Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf Ahmed, and his son, Asad Ahmed while asking for the punishment for their killers.

Accused of promoting ‘vote jihad’
In November 2024, Sajjad Nomani was accused of delivering hate speeches and promoting ‘vote jihad’ through his speeches by the BJP leader Kirit Somaiya who filed a complaint against him to the Election Commission of India (ECI). This came after Sajjad Nomani released a list of candidates from various parties he declared to support in the Maharashtra Election of 2024. Kirit Somaya has further claimed that Sajjad Nomani had asked for social boycott of Muslims who supported the BJP. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra directed the district collector and deputy district election officer of Parbhani district to submit a report of actions taken regarding the alleged controversial remarks by Sajjad Nomani.
