Some Lesser Known Facts About Sharda Sinha
- In childhood, she used to accompany her grandmother to Chhath Pooja. Sinha used to sing Chhath songs along with other ladies, and from there, she developed an interest in singing Chhath songs.
- At the of 3 or 4, she started composing music for poems while reading them.
- She used to participate in various religious programs in her village.
- Since childhood, she loved Dadra Thumri songs and used to practice songs along with the singer Panna Devi.
- Sharda Sinha sang the Maithili song ‘Dwar Ke Chekai Nega’ for the first time at her elder brother’s marriage. Her relatives there praised her for her skills.
- While she was studying in school, she sang the Bhakti song ‘Jai Jagdishwari Mata Saraswati’ during a Durga Puja celebration in her village but, her village people did not appreciate her singing on stage. However, her father supported her a lot and she continued performing on stage shows.
- During school days, when Sharda was singing a song with her friends, her teacher Hari Uppal was secretly listening to her song. After which her teacher and principal recorded the song on a tape recorder.
- After her marriage, her mother-in-law opposed Sharda performing as a singer on stage. Her mother-in-law once became so angry that she did not eat anything for 3 days after one of Sharda’s stage performances. However, Sharda’s father-in-law supported her in making her career as a singer.
- Sharda Sinha then went to Lucknow for an audition at HMV for the first time along with her husband, but she was rejected. She got so upset over this that she ate too many kulfis so that her throat may get infected. Her husband consoled her and asked he to re-audition in the contest.
- There, she met recording manager Murli Manohar Swaroop, and he gave Sharda a second chance to audition. During the audition, her voice was also heard by HMV’s general manager Vikas Dubey, and he asked her to meet him in his office.
- Along with singing, she continued working as a teacher.
- Sharda Sinha then did her training in Manipuri Dance.
- In the 1980s, she started singing folk songs in various languages like Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Magahi.
- For the song “Kahe Toh Se Sajna” from the Hindi film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989), she received Rs 76.
- Apart from folk songs, her album named ‘Shraddhanjali’ became quite popular in which she lent her voice to the songs of poet Vidyapati.

- In 2009, she was appointed as the brand ambassador of the Sharda Sinha Election Commission in the Bihar Assembly Election.
- In 2012, she lent her voice to the song “Taar Bijli Se Patle Hamare Piya” from the Hindi film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur.’
- In 2016, Sharda Sinha sang “Supawo Naa Mile Maai” written by lyricist Hriday Narayan Jha for the first time on Chhath Pooja along with the singer Shanti Jain.
- On 26 August 2020, she was diagnosed with COVID-19 symptoms. However, various media houses spread the fake news of her demise.
- In 2021, Sharda Sinha wrote on her Facebook page that she sang the song ‘Sarkar Vidhwa Banaile’ in the Hindi film ‘Kaagaz.’ Sharda Sinha accused the film’s producer, music director and other team members of not promoting the song.
- She has worked with various music banners like T-Series, HMV, and Tips.
- On her self-titled YouTube channel, she has uploaded her various songs.
- On 26 October 2024, her health became critical, and she was admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. According to the reports, after her husband’s death in September 2024, she was not eating properly after which her health started deteriorating.
