Some Lesser Known Facts About Tushar Lall
- Since he was a child, Tarun had a great influence of both Hindustani and Western classical music in his life. He himself played Western music but had friends who were good with Hindustani classical music.
- Being a huge fan of the Game of Thrones series, Tarun created a fusion theme of the series with Indian music.
- He was featured in the 2018 Forbes India Celebrity 100 issue.
- Tarun is the founder of The Indian Jam Project, a unique band that fuses Hindustani classical music with Western classical elements.
- Tarun initially wanted to keep the band name “Indian Jam Session,” but had to change it to The Indian Jam Project because the famous composer and pianist Michael Price tweeted about “Indian Jam” as a band name.
- After the success of the Game of Thrones Theme (Indian Version), Tarun also released Indian versions of themes such as the BBC Sherlock Theme, Pirates of the Caribbean Theme, and Harry Potter Music, among many others.
- In the span of three years since the release of their first video in 2014, Tarun and the Indian Jam Project released 13 videos. In 2016, the group performed at a YouTube FanFest in Mumbai, where they joined other viral creators such as AIB, East India Comedy, Shirley Setia, and Lily Singh.
- Tarun comes from a lineage of bureaucrats and had no connection to the field of music, except for his great-grandfather, who was a multi-instrumentalist.
- Tarun never received formal music training. He taught himself piano.
- Tushar, in addition to composing music for the epic film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, has worked on projects such as Dancing on the Grave, Curry and Cyanide, and Sergeant. He was also featured in the official Bond Music Documentary, The Sound of 007, along with legends like Hans Zimmer and Billie Eilish.
- Tushar composed the title tune for Dancing on the Grave in 2017 while at a school auditorium. Many people find this narrative odd. His parents had completed a course at Carnegie Mellon University and had reserved a school auditorium with their friends for a celebration. Because it was an American school, he assumed there must be a music room, so he began exploring about. He discovered one that included a little piano and was used as a practice area. He sat down and started playing music. And it became the title tune for ‘Dancing on the Grave’.
- Initially, Tushar’s parents were skeptical about his career choice and journey, but after seeing his success, they are now proud of him.
