Some Lesser Known Facts About Usha Thakur
- Usha Thakur was born and brought up in a middle-class family in Sangam Nagar, Indore.
- During an interview, Usha Thakur said that while growing up she decided not to get married, and she believed that one of her family members should devote his/her life to country service.
- After her father’s retirement, her father started a cow shelter which is managed by Usha.
- In her teens, she developed an interest in Hindi literature.
- She is a devotional singer and often performs in various religious events. Usha Thakur, along with 100 bhajan troupes of Indore, has been reciting Sunderkand in different parts of the city for a few years.
- After completing her graduation, she started Prodh Shiksha Kendra in her village. She then started Samagra Kranti Gurukul School.
- Usha Thakur has worked as the vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party and incharge of its cultural cell.
- She has worked for Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, Sanskritik Jagran Manch, Hindu Jagran Manch, and Pehal Samagra Kranti Chetna Manch.
- She has worked as the chairperson of the Education Committee and Indore Municipal Corporation.
- She was once appointed as the minister in charge of the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

- Usha Thakur has been an active member of Durga Vahini (women’s wing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad).
- Before becoming the municipal councillor in 1990, Usha Thakur was gifted a dagger (fighting knife) by Bhagat Singh‘s family.
- In 2003, she served as a member of the twelfth legislative assembly, Member of the Committee of Women and Child Welfare, and Member of the Consultative Committee of the Religious Trusts and Endowments Department.
- She has also started Seva Project Chaitanya Dham where facilities of free education centres, free computer training centres, free homoeopathic treatment, and free vocational sewing training centres are provided.
- On 2 October 2019, Usha Thakur cycled 25 kilometres from her residence in Sangam Nagar to the Gandhi statue and Shastri statue.
- She once started a signature campaign in which women were asked to submit their mobile numbers and voter ID cards with a letter to the CM. In the letter, it was stated that the rapists should hang to death which would create a fear among the culprits.
- She once said that if anyone wanted to take a selfie with her, he should deposit Rs 100 in the local Mandal unit of BJP. She said that a lot of her time was wasted because of selfies.
- On 13 August 2022, Usha Thakur announced free entry to museums and monuments in Indore, Madhya Pradesh during her tenure.
- On 30 August 2022, Usha Thakur started the program “Buddhabhumi India – Journey in the Footsteps of Buddha” in Thailand, preserving the values of Ramayana and Buddhism.
