• In childhood, she was inclined towards singing. At the age of 6, she started her formal training in Hindustani classical music and Carnatic music under Anuradha Sriram. Later, she did her training in Hindustani music under Pandit Manikbua Thakurdas.

• In 1980, she worked as a child actor in the Tamil film ‘Kaali’ starring the Indian actor Rajnikanth.

• While she was in class 12, she performed in various radio and TV programs.
