  • Devajit Saikia liked cricket and started playing in his childhood.
  • In 1984, he played for Assam in the CK Nayudu Trophy for school cricket in Lucknow.
  • On his Vijay Merchant Trophy debut for Assam under-15 at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, he scored 55 runs.
  • In the Under-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in 1987, he represented Assam and scored a century against Orissa in Kolkata.
  • He played for Assam Under-19 in the Cooch Behar Trophy between 1986 and 1989.
  • He was a member of the East Zone team, along with Sourav Ganguly and Ranjib Biswal, who won the 1987-1988 Vijay Hazare Trophy in Kanpur.
  • He played under Maninder Singh in the Wills Trophy (now defunct).
  • He also played 4 matches in the Ranji Trophy in 1991 for Assam.
  • At the age of 21, he quit cricket to focus on his studies.
